Monkey Business
A small, simple diorama I made for my Sherman “King Kong”.
Google Street View was essential during my research. I simply drove around Saipan and observed the landscape and vegetation. Actually, the scenery in my diorama depicts one specific spot where a muddy forest trail connects with the main gravel road. Palm trees are an essential part of any Pacific diorama, but they grow until a certain elevation is reached.
Monkeys are not native to Saipan, but were imported there in the past and were present on the island during 1944. And because the tank is nicknamed “King Kong”, it was only natural to include a couple of his primate friends in the scene.
